Getting Started

Get started in two minutes or less!

First step, make sure the power is off and pop the back off your Danger-powered device.

Remove the battery.

Insert your SIM card. Replace the battery and cover.

Power up your Danger-powered device and you are good to go!


You've Got The Power

There are lots of ways to extend the battery life of your Danger-powered device, depending on what you're doing. Besides turning it off, you can turn off the radio, tweak the key guard, detect ambient light, and blank the screensaver during sleep mode.


Hold It Steady

A steady camera takes a better picture. Improve your picture quality without carrying around a tripod - simply steady your hiptop-holding arm on a nearby wall, post or other bit of solid support before you click and send.

Tips for taking “arty” photos from photographer Mark Beck

"Take a ton of photos. It's like training for the Olympics; the more photos you take, the better your eye will become. If you get bored with your Hiptop, alternate with different cameras, but try to push through.
I remember reading somewhere about a photographer that said she became an artist by taking photos. I reckon that you can make every effort to take arty photos, but if you take out your camera often enough, and take photos of things that you love, art will happen."


Who Is It?

Use photos from your gallery as caller-id pictures. Get one of your friends to stand still for a quick photo, then simply go into your address book and choose 'Select from gallery'. Find the right picture and you're good to go!


Draw Me a Map

Select an address in your Address book, press and hold scroll wheel. An option, 'Look up...' will display a map from mapquest.com of the location.


Silence is Golden

Is the beeping of arriving emails keeping you up at night? Sure, you could always mute it but then you might miss that important phone call. Sound Profiles are the answer. From the Jump Screen press the Menu button, select Settings then Sound Profiles. From there, you can crank up, turn down or entirely disable different sounds. Once you have a setup you like, give it a catchy name, save the profile and switch to it whenever you need a bit of silence.


Quick Shot

Trying to grab a fast picture with your Danger-powered device? Forget rolling the trackball! From anywhere on the jump screen, a quick press of the top-right bumper will take you to the Camera app, another press will power-up your camera, and a final press will take the picture. Click click click done!


Fast Talker

Giving your thumbs a workout flipping through multiple IM conversations? A quick finger-press to the left and right shoulder buttons on your Danger-powered device will cycle your back and forth through all of them - and your thumbs never have to leave the keyboard.


Lord of the Rings

When you are setting individual ringtones for the contacts you want to hear from the most, don't forget to set some for the people you want to avoid most of the time. This way, you'll know the instant your Danger-powered device rings whether you should answer the phone or leave it in your pocket.


Faster Fingers

Speed up your IM conversations, even if you are not a touch typist: from the Jump Screen, press Menu, select Settings, then select AutoText. From there, set up shortcuts for all your favorite words and phrases.


Phreak Show

Phone phreak? Set your favorite friends to speed dial for rapid one-touch calling - save yourself six steps. Type less, talk more.


Jump!

Jump to it! Set custom jump shortcut keys to all your favorite dowloaned games and applications. From the Jump screen, press Menu, select Settings, then select Jump Shortcuts.


Group Chat

Start or join a chat room! In AOL Instant Messenger, press MENU-J at the Buddy List screen. Get your group on!


Speed Racer

Speed up your scrolling - Use and to scroll up and down a page at a time. For when you have no time for one line at a time.

Want to remember that IM conversation forever? Press MENU-M and quickly mail it to yourself. Or, share it with friends to avoid repeating yourself.


Get Into The Groove

Get your music going! Connect your Sidekick 3 to your computer with the included USB cable, or remove the SD card (hint: it is under the back cover) and put it into your external card reader. Drag MP3 files to the Music folder on the card. Unhook, or get the card back into your Sidekick. Press the Jump button and Done button simultaneously to quick-launch Music Player.


Keep the Music Flowing

Essential Shortcut keys for Music Player:

  • [left shoulder] Play previous song.
  • [x] Pause song now playing, or resume play if paused.
  • [right shoulder] Play next song.
  • [Done button] Dismiss the player.

Want more space for music? Buy any higher-capacity miniSD card, Slide it in and you're set.


Going Blue

Go wireless with Bluetooth and make that important hands-free call you've been waiting on. First tip - make sure your headset is on and "visible". Second tip: turn Bluetooth on! From the Jump screen, press Menu and go to Bluetooth. Turn it on, then select Pairings. Select your headset from the list. That's it! From the Phone, press Menu and transfer the sound to your headset and you are good to go.


Meet & Greet

Get your contact info to someone quickly via Bluetooth: Press Menu, select Bluetooth, select "Send my vCard". Or, speed things up and press Menu-Y. Bonus tip: from the address book, highlight any contact, press Menu and send it via Bluetooth.


Email Tricks

Retrieve email from any of your POP or IMAP email accounts - like Gmail or Yahoo! Mail. Press the Menu button, select Settings, Accounts and add a new account. Done! Plus, view emailed Word and PDF content directly on your Sidekick.
