Its all very personal, and pointless.
You're right, it does get personal but not because I take it that way. When a user begins making comments involving my family and/or friends, or tries a very personal direct attack at me, they are the ones trying to make it personal and cross a line (a line that exist for admins, mods *and* members) into being harassing. The user is dealt with not because my feelings were hurt (if directed to me), but because they are posting harassing, inappropriate content that we don't want to see here.

Sorry, we don't give out infractions because we get bored. We never hand out infractions unless you break the rules, or give us a valid reason to do so otherwise.

We have zero tolerance for users insulting other members/moderators/admins and trolling. So users are do these usually get have a large, lengthy infraction, or simply an instant ban depending on the post.

We're usually pretty light handed with banning users, but sadly many users these days think because they're on the internet they can simply do or say whatever they want, which is not the case.

I think they do a great job and clean the forum of dumb and pointless threads such as this....

I've gotten into it with mods on this site a few times over the years... it happens... doesn't mean they aren't doing their job right..

Seems like some of you are just aggrevated that you don't have the power to say whatever you want. Get over it. That's how a forum works..

People are gonna complain about mods no matter what you do just don't get butt hurt about it and over react with a perma ban. 90% of the time its all in good humor anyway.
If a thread is blatant violation of a rule (buddy search, advertising, etc...), then thread is deleted.

Threads that duplicate posts, or threads that veer way off topic, or those that turn into flame wars we'll typically just lock it with an explanation and leave it at that.

I've been running this site (and it's predecessor's) since 2002. I don't take anything these users say personally and contrary to what some people like to think, it doesn't hurt my feelings. If I did, I doubt I'd be putting up it still today. The infractions/bans are simply our means to maintain a level of civility here and keep out the riff raff.

And good humor? I doubt it. Over the years I've received threats, been "internet shot", been called a multitude of things and body parts, etc.... I doubt all of that, and even this thread, was made "in good humor".

It seems people sometimes take getting a little slap on the wrist (ie: an infraction that expires or a thread locked) way to seriously sometimes.

forums such as this one serve a great purpose. It takes good admins to keep the value of the threads. I've been to some boards that are not moderated very well and informatin is all over the place and in many cases flat out wrong.

I can usually rely on getting good (true) information here without too much clutter because of the work the admins do...which is value.

No offense , but I don't think you, along with 100 other members that joined recently during the outtage can really guage the performance of our mods in the matter of a week.

Which is where most of the complaining lately is coming from.. Members that joined for the soul purpose of coming on here to either talk or complain about the outtage....

If people actually read the guidelines when they signed up for the site (and followed them!) a lot of this whining wouldn't even be happening.

It is a common misconception that people believe since this is a 'public' internet forum, that they should be able to say whatever they want and incorrectly throw around the 1st amendment/freedom of speech as justification.

Newsflash people: when you check that little box or click the 'I agree' button, you agree to abide by the rules that you hastily scrolled through (or skipped) for the priviledge of using that site, as well as accepting the consequences for breaking said rules. If you don't agree with the rules, then don't join the site!

Why do you think they are random? You think we just made up a reason to give him an infraction?

Here are the two guidelines that's were violated that resulted in these infractions you pulled from the above poster.

Quote:
Write like a reasonably intelligent person. Make your subject clear, not "OMG HELP LULZ". If people have to struggle to read your posts, they probably won't. if u write like ths u mite find urself in srs trouble LOL

Don't ask for or offer illegal stuff. This includes drugs, cracks, warez, bootlegs, copyrighted music and video files, how to commit insurance/warranty fraud, underage drinking, stealing devices, etc. If you wouldn't be comfortable doing it in front of a judge, don't do it here.
