Last night I had a very telling conversation w/ a TMO Customer Care rep. I had to call because I received the OTA update yesterday and after the update mư bookmarks got wiped out. And it wiped off my Mobile Journal account and Newsroom feeds.

Anyway, the TMO rep told me they didn't even know an OTA would be rolling out. He claimed Microsoft and Danger just started rolling out this OTA w/o telling TMO. And that they haven't really been telling TMO what they're doing.

If true, this is very telling and explains why things are such a mess.

I'm really sorry I accepted the install of the update yesterday since it did nothing but cause me to lose my bookmarks, mobile journal entries and Newsroom feeds.

It's quite possible the rep may not have known. Reps often don't have the time to read internal memos etc. Tmobile DID know. Danger works closely with carriers on OTAs.
Essentially what you learned is what we already know: reps often don't know things.

PS: The ota is posted on TMOBILE's FORUM and has been since 10/31 at 8am.

Sidekick Restoration and Software Update

We are happy to report that many of our Sidekick customers have successfully restored their contacts back to their device. If you haven’t done so already, we encourage you to visit My T-Mobile to restore your contacts. There was a very small group of customers for whom we were unable to recover any contacts. Those customers have been notified by mail to their T-Mobile billing address. If you have been unable to recover your lost contacts and you did not receive a notice in the mail from T-Mobile, we encourage you to contact Customer Care by dialing 611 on your device.

The Microsoft / Danger team continues to work on restoring the rest of customer data, including Calendars, To Do Lists, Notes, Settings, High Scores, and Pictures. We will share more details around this restoration process very soon.

If you haven’t already received it, you will soon be seeing a software update becoming available on your device. You will not notice any changes to your device as a result of this update, but after receiving the update, all Catalog application data will now be more securely backed up in the Microsoft / Danger systems.

^ That post gryphon quoted from the T-mobile forum needs to be stickied imo. Been seeing a lot of people asking what it is supposed to be doing.
