Default Sidekicks going extinct

I was in the mall the other day and we stopped at a Tmobile stand. We were talking about a couple of phones and I asked about another Sidekick coming out. The rep said no more Sidekicks are being made because they produce to many problems. Has anyone else heard about this or was he just talking??

First off no phone is perfect and to be truthfull all phones have somekind of problems to it..I've never heard that but it sounds very hard to belive im pretty sure tmo wouldn't dare to cutt their major money bringer...thatz to big of a risk for them...they might not make sidekicks for a while but never for good

You know...I was just wondering about this. You'd think that if there was a new device coming out we'd have heard something by now, nearly 8 months since the SKLX09 was released (time flies, eh?). If memory serves me right, we heard the first rumors about the 09 last January (the online survey a pbd member took that advertised a "hypothetical" upcoming Sidekick). That was, what, 7 months after the release of the 08?

Another thing to consider, the Project Pink phones that the Danger team were working on got scrapped & then immediately after that was the Great Sidekick Outage. Maybe they haven't had time to come up w/ a new device since then? Although, as much as it pains me to say, I could see them discontinuing the Sidekick line. We don't know exactly why Project Pink was scrapped, and after the outage a lot of people are distrustful of Sidekicks in general.

The Sidekick might be t-mobile's "money maker" but they can slap the trademark on a newer phone and make a hell of alot more money (I don't know if people realise that "Sidekick" IS just a trademark of T-mobile).

ImpyChick: fully agree, haven't heard anything! Who sells new Sidekick devices now anyway? T-Mobile USA... and thats about it. T-Mobile Germany/Austria are terminating Sidekick service on the 31st, Telstra stopped selling the Slide on the 30th of Sept and will kick everyone off by 30 Sept 2011 (if the service is around that long), T-Mobile UK still have service but no new devices, and then theres Nextim Italy which sells a hiptop slide, but that will probably disappear soon enough.

Don't forget the hiptop isn't carried by the same amount of carriers it used to be carried by. The phone was sold around the world at one point, now it seems USA are the only ones left

I think it was david attinborough (can't spell his name to save my life), once said, 'no species is meant to live forever' and though he was talking about humans, it can be applied to anything. sidekicks will die out eventually.

That's what my father heard from a T-Mobile Representative since I'm still a Sidekick user and I'm the only one on the Family Plan that uses a Sidekick so I would believe that there might be a HUGE possibility of it being taken off the market completely.

I hope tht this isn't going to happen...I haven't really asked simply bc I'm not going to buy another phone until next year in nov...but I'm really hoping tht they come out with something good even if it's not an sidekick...I would be much happier with and sidekick bc I'm used to it's qwerty keyboard...but Eh gotta move on if u have to...

I believe they are dead. There are just to many phones out there now that do more then the SK..alot of people left because of the outage and loss on their device. The only thing I miss is the cheap data plan..after getting another phone and see'n how much I was missing and what was not offered on the SK I will never go back..will never look back. Its like your first love..its hard to say bye, but to know better things in the future you get a smile..
