Default Sidekick UK = No more

Your Sidekick phone services are changing

Look's like April 15th is the final day for the Sidekick in the UK

T-Mobile UK are sending letters out to customers now informing them that the service will be discontinued on the 15th.

you’ll no longer be able to:
  • Send or receive picture messages
Use the internet on your phone
Buy new content from the Danger store
Access any information from the Sidekick Desktop Interface at t-mobile-sidekick.co.uk/login
Keep any personal info saved on your phone, such as messages, emails, videos, photos, games or other
applications, once you manually re-set your phone or your battery runs out

Indeed, this is a sad day for UK Sidekick owners...

Leave your condolence messages below.

That is really sad, oh well, all good things come to an end eh?, I would at least email myself all my contact to a different email address before the SideKick deleted everything for you

I received the letter telling me about the Sidekick's demise a few days ago. It seems such a shame that I have to lose a phone I'm more than happy with, for one that I don't really want, even if it is free! It almost seems like T-Mobile UK had no interest in the SK's and didn't put any effort in promoting them the way they do in the US.
Anyway rant over!
Can anyone give me some advice on which phone is the most similar to the SK? Also are they all Wifi connected meaning I'll need a router?
Any help would be appreciated.

If they have wifi, you won't have to use it if you don't want to. You can just stay on t-mobile and use all the features (with the exception of ones t-mobile decides to block, like some twitter apps). Which phone to go for depends on which features are more important. I would say either blackberry or android would be the easiest move.

(I know we aren't supposed to discuss other brands but since we have no choice...)

I love how on the letter they tell us it's ok because we can still text and use the phone. It'll save me money though, I was only keeping the contract going for the sidekick service. People were also questioning why I was carrying more than one phone.

To be honest I think only you and I are/were still using our sidekicks Rachel lol. The service was hit and miss lately anyway.

Hi everyone,
Thanks for your help, I'll check out all your suggestions.
Yes, I know what you mean Nena, I love how they said they're making "a few changes" when they're removing every feature that makes it worth having! I've noticed hardly anyone posts here now, compared to the US board, so I think you're right and we're the last of the SK users. I've been lucky and have had very few problems with any of my SK's, so I will miss it.
Anyway thanks again.

I just got the letter today. I'm really upset... I was happy with my sidekick and had no interest in changing it to anything else.

:(

I loved the line telling us that we can still text and make calls but not access anything else including our data or files.

ooh bravo T-mobile we'll be able to do what phones 10 years ago could do.

I know right.

T-mobile tried to convince me to keep my contract even though I said I only kept it for the sidekick service. Was a little ridiculous.

one disappointing thing is that theres gonna be a lot of non functioning danger devices sooner or later, who provides data anymore? T-mobile USA and Telstra.

Sucks for you T-mo UK guys. I hope something gets released so were not tied to the backend servers, but I doubt that'll ever happen

would kill to be able to use danger-powered devices again - firmware update to remove the backend requirement, or run our own service? eh, may as well keep on dreaming

What's even more annoying is that I'm guessing they meant as of today BANG done rather than 15th is the last day.

I'm cancelling my contract after a long drawn out month of arguements with Tmobile who have been trying to screw me for paying for a new handset that i do want at a price that is no cheaper than a new customer.

The service = appaling. Anyone else get that from them?

I'm thinking of switching for a while to Orange at least they have free cinema ticket deals
