Sugarluxe is America's Sweet Art, created by artist and designer, Chandra Michaels.
With her illustrative iconography and punchy surface patterns, she has created a growing demand for her signature style. Sugarluxe not only tops the list of must have limited-edition artwork and accessories found in select shops around the world, the pieces are perfectly suited to the celebrities for whom they are often designed.
On the hips of some of the hottest bands like Fall Out Boy and INXS and designing accessories made for superstars like Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake and Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas, the allure of Sugarluxe certainly starts with its fusion of art to both fashion and music.
During the line’s debut in LA at the 2005 Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, Sugarluxe was selected for the VH1 Big in 05 Awards -- where Chandra created custom illustrated accessories for celebrities like Jessica Simpson, Lindsay Lohan, and Jaime Pressly.
On the heels of her success with VH1, she was offered the opportunity to design a one of a kind Limited-Edition Belt Buckle for nominees of the 2006 CMT Music Awards. Here, she found new fans of her work, including heart throb -- John Corbett of Sex & the City, American Idol, Carrie Underwood and crossover favorites, the Rascal Flatts.
Seen on stage, in magazines and on some of the nation’s hottest TV networks, it wasn’t long before MTV, the ultimate venue for all things pop, would discover Sugarluxe. The chance to design an exclusive collection for the 2006 MTV Music Awards, meant Sugarluxe was now presented in company with top of the line labels like Sean John, Fendi, and Paul Frank – confirming to eager customers worldwide, that Sugarluxe was the new name to watch.
From a recent installation at the famous Hotel Des Arts to an ever expanding list of manufacturers vying to place Sugarluxe Art on their products, it seems life is pretty sweet in the land of Sugarluxe.
“I love that my work provides me the chance to collaborate with incredible companies and fantastic people. That’s why I am truly honored to be involved with Danger for poweredbydanger.com. Danger-powered devices are amazing, with the most empowering, user-friendly platform imaginable. As a true gadget girl who thrives on the convergence of technology and art -- I just think it’s so completely cool." – Chandra Michaels
Don’t call Vulcan a graffiti artist! While his street art has graced literally thousands of walls + trains in his native New York over the years, and his artwork appears in pretty much every book on the history of spray can + urban art, the term graffiti hardly does his oeuvre justice - even if he is a legend + style innovator in this illicit genre. Vulcan’s murals have shown in museums, his art can be found on platinum album covers, and his abstract canvases hang in countless private + corporate collections. But this is just the beginning. Vulcan is one of those unique individuals whose creativity both reflects and drives popular culture. He first performed at Harlem’s legendary Apollo Theatre when he was five, sang in funk + heavy metal bands, worked for years as a DJ in underground clubs, and produced chart-topping electronic music. He has written for VIBE, chronicled the underground motorcycle stunt scene in New York, traveled the world painting live at hip-hop festivals, spoken at NYU + Yale on the history of urban art (before being hustled out the back door to avoid the police!), competed in international video game competitions, and is currently working on his second screenplay. Vulcan's fine art currently adorns the walls of Danger, Inc. in Silicon Valley and he is currently an artist in residence at START SOMA in San Francisco.
